iPhone Duo durability test: nanotexture removal, hinge sand damage, and bend failure
A durability test of the iPhone Duo by YouTuber JerryRigEverything revealed that its inner display scratches at level 2 hardness, though the nanotexture layer effectively hides these marks when the screen is on. The extreme testing also showed that while the device has an IP68 rating, enough sand can jam the hinge mechanism so it no longer closes. The YouTuber removed the nanotexture layer himself, finding the display more reflective but with more vibrant colors, despite Apple warning against doing so. The video concluded with a forced bend damaging the screen, similar to a cracking issue reported in a small number of Duos. The tester advised caution using the device on beaches and keeping it away from chainmail armor.
