iPhone Duo display cracks early, iFixit blames hinge flaw

pcgameshardware.de (German) —

Apple's new iPhone Duo foldable smartphone is showing display cracks after minimal use, with users reporting damage along the fold line within days of its release. The issue, dubbed "Crackgate," has prompted investigations by repair experts. iFixit identified the hinge mechanism as the likely weak point, noting that fluorescent dust particles penetrated the moving parts, causing grinding sounds and mechanical stress on the display. Despite the defect, iFixit rated the iPhone Duo as the most repairable foldable on the market, scoring five out of ten points. South Korean YouTuber CuriousHagi reproduced the damage and found a broken component in the hinge, suggesting improper latching caused it to strike the display. Appleinsider reports the issue is isolated, not widespread, and advises owners to avoid bending the device backward.
