Harry Kane wins Ballon d'Or, first English winner since Owen
Harry Kane won the 2026 Ballon d'Or, becoming the first English winner since Michael Owen in 2001. The Bayern Munich striker received the award from Ronaldo at a ceremony in London, following a season with 73 goals in 65 matches. Prince William congratulated Kane, calling him an "exceptional captain" and "extraordinary footballer." The 33-year-old England captain succeeded Ousmane Dembélé, while Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal missed out on the top prize. Kane is Bayern's first winner since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 1981. The 70th edition was held in London to honor Stanley Matthews, the first winner. Alexia Putellas won the women's Ballon d'Or for a third time, and Luis de la Fuente took the best coach award.
