European Markets Slide as French Yields Ease From 24-Year High
European markets fell broadly on Friday, with the Stoxx 600 down 0.4%, as disappointing corporate earnings and rising oil prices near $115 a barrel weighed on investor sentiment. Only Lisbon and Amsterdam escaped losses. French 10-year bond yields eased to 5.052% after hitting a 24-year high on Thursday, narrowing the risk premium over German bunds to 172.4 basis points. Volvo plunged over 27% after a large operating loss, while Kering fell nearly 12% on weak Gucci sales, both citing China's slowdown. The euro weakened 0.18% to $1.1196 after French PMI fell to a four-month low, while gold briefly dropped below $4,000 an ounce. Oil headed for a third weekly gain, and Asian markets mostly recovered from an AI-sector sell-off.
