European markets fall on oil, debt, and AI spending worries
European stock markets opened lower on Friday, pressured by rising oil prices, sovereign debt concerns, and investor worries about AI spending that triggered sharp declines in US tech stocks. The EuroStoxx 600 fell 0.34%, with major indices in London, Paris, and Frankfurt declining between 0.33% and 0.81%. Oil prices rose after reports of new US-Israel plans to strike Iran, with Brent climbing 0.81% to $114.09. France's risk premium hit a 15-year high above 170 basis points as its 10-year bond yield reached levels not seen since 2002. The tech-heavy Nasdaq fell 2.6% on AI profitability doubts, with Meta, AMD, Micron, and Nvidia dropping sharply. Gold declined 0.26% to $4,014.22 per ounce, while bitcoin recovered 0.79% toward $82,000. Asian markets showed mixed results, with Shenzhen gaining 3.03% and Tokyo falling 0.22%.
