DR Congo Ebola outbreak reaches 4,566 confirmed cases and 2,128 deaths

The Democratic Republic of Congo reported 118 new confirmed Ebola cases in the past 24 hours, the highest daily number since the outbreak began, bringing the total to 4,566 confirmed cases and 2,128 deaths. The new cases were concentrated in Ituri province, which saw its incidence double in a day and accounts for 85.7% of all cumulative cases. The overall case fatality rate stands at 46.6%, with 50 community deaths reported in the latest 24-hour period. The outbreak affects 53 health zones across five provinces, and a death was reported in Bas-Uele after travel from Haut-Uele. WHO officials said the response started late, allowing the virus to spread widely.
