Digital Sun Games skips public playtest for ReVamp over AI cloning fears

pcgamer.com —

Digital Sun Games, the studio behind Moonlighter, will not host a public playtest for its upcoming roguelike ReVamp due to fears of AI-assisted cloning and reverse-engineering before its March 2027 launch. The decision follows a surge in rapidly produced clones on platforms like Steam and Roblox, driven by tools such as Claude Opus 5.5. Marketing manager Israel Mallén stated the risk of sharing a build with tens of thousands of players is too high, noting other developers share similar concerns. The studio cited recent incidents where games were cloned and published before originals launched, including a case where seven clones appeared within ten days. Another studio, Drunken Goddess Reflux, also canceled its Steam Next Fest demo for similar reasons.
