Apple's iPhone Duo uses replaceable folding display layer to reduce crease
Apple has announced that its upcoming iPhone Duo features a replaceable cover layer on its folding display, designed to minimize the visible crease that develops over time. The replacement costs $19 with AppleCare. Apple VP Kate Bergeron explained the matte coating reduces crease visibility, while the replaceable top layer can be peeled off and swapped for a new one to restore a day-one appearance. The feature was highlighted in AppleCare service cost listings. The design aims to address durability concerns common among foldable phones, particularly for the iPhone Duo's premium price tag exceeding $2,000. Apple engineers focused on maximizing the layer's lifespan, though replacement cost without coverage remains undisclosed.
