Wayne Rooney criticises Lisandro Martinez for 'disrespectful' Man United interview

Wayne Rooney criticised Lisandro Martinez as "disrespectful" after the defender publicly challenged Manchester United's leadership and technical director Jason Wilcox following a Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid. Martinez said the squad expected more from the board in the transfer market, claiming manager Michael Carrick was not properly backed after last season's third-place finish. United have won just two of their first nine matches despite spending £148m on midfield upgrades. Rooney said the interview brought "greater noise" and unsettled the squad, while former teammate Ashley Young urged players to take responsibility. Carrick declined to respond, saying the team must stay together.
