Wayne Rooney criticises Lisandro Martinez for 'disrespectful' Man United comments

Wayne Rooney has criticised Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez as "disrespectful" after the Argentine publicly challenged the club's leadership and technical director Jason Wilcox following a Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid. Martinez said the squad expected more investment from the board and claimed manager Michael Carrick had not been properly backed in the summer, despite United spending £148m on midfield upgrades. The comments came as pressure mounted on Carrick ahead of Sunday's Premier League trip to Leeds. Rooney said Martinez had gone "too far" and that his remarks would create "greater noise" and unsettle the squad. Former teammate Ashley Young also urged players to take responsibility, while Carrick declined to respond, saying emotions were high after the match.
