Wall Street mixed as Nasdaq rebounds on tech recovery
Wall Street opened mixed on Friday, with the Nasdaq recovering after a 5% AI-driven plunge the previous day, while resilient US labor data strengthened expectations of a December interest rate hike. The Dow Jones fell 0.94% to 51,036.69 points, while the S&P 500 rose 0.26% and the Nasdaq gained 1.23%. Tech stocks, semiconductor makers, and data center operators rebounded after Thursday's losses triggered by Democratic midterm election wins and fears of stricter AI regulation. Democrats plan to introduce bills regulating AI systems and data center construction when they take control of Congress in January. Meanwhile, Philadelphia semiconductor stocks gained about 5%, and Airbnb rose 9.7% after raising its 2026 revenue forecast, while Mattel fell 2% on lowered outlook.
