OpenAI CFO says midterms didn't change IPO plans, targets next year
OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar said the 2026 midterm elections did not "dramatically change" the company's plans for an IPO, which remains targeted for next year. Friar said OpenAI will continue investing in data centers, now rebranded as "compute campuses," and work to build trust with communities amid Democratic gains that included flipping governorships in Texas, Georgia, and Ohio on promises to rein in such development. She cited strong Q3 revenue growth of 70% and a recent private funding round. OpenAI also pledged Thursday to pay full electricity costs, avoid non-disclosure agreements with public officials, and publish job creation data. Friar expressed excitement for an IPO to broaden economic value creation beyond institutions.
