Global Markets Plunge on AI Fears After US Midterms
Global stock markets plunged Friday in a wave of AI-related panic selling following the US midterm elections, with one Asian exchange temporarily suspending trading. President Donald Trump blamed Democrats for the market turmoil. The Democrats' landslide victory, giving them control of Congress, triggered investor fears of increased regulatory pressure on tech companies and their massive AI data centers. Nvidia shares fell over nine percent, while Micron dropped more than 17 percent, with similar losses across Asian and European markets. Despite the sharp declines, expert Ed Yardeni of Yardeni Research said he does not foresee a full AI bubble burst, calling it a rapid deflation instead. Financial advisors urged retail investors to remain calm, noting that corrections of 10 to 20 percent are normal market fluctuations.
