Wall Street plunges 1,800 points as investors flee tech stocks
Wall Street suffered a major selloff Thursday, erasing post-election gains, as investors fled tech stocks over fears a Democratic sweep could slow data center expansion. The Dow Jones fell 1,833 points, while the Nasdaq entered correction territory. The Nasdaq dropped 5.52% to 24,314.997 points, and the S&P 500 fell 4.35% to 7,353.86. Chipmakers Broadcom and Nvidia each lost 9%, and Oracle fell 7%. The Russell 2000 also entered correction, with all major indexes heading for their worst day since April 2025. Investors worry Democratic victories, including Senator Bernie Sanders' call for a national data center moratorium, could hinder AI infrastructure growth. The Magnificent 7 tech stocks lost nearly $900 billion in market value, with Nvidia alone down $374 billion.
