Tetsuya Nomura, creator of Kingdom Hearts, teased his involvement in the upcoming Disney+ anime series and urged fans to "let their imagination run wild" following the D23 2026 announcement. The series was confirmed during the Disney Entertainment Showcase, which also revealed a new mainline game integrating Pixar's Coco world. Nomura stated he held extensive discussions with the writing and art teams, creating new character designs for the project, though he declined to share specific plot details. The anime series currently has no release date, with only a concept image showing a Keyblade-wielding character resembling a Dark Roads protagonist. Disney Kids & Family president Ayo Davis confirmed the creative team works closely with Nomura, promising the series will be "undeniable Kingdom Hearts" while offering a new way to experience the universe.
