Kingdom Hearts Gets First Original Animated Series With New Story

Disney and Square Enix announced the first original animated series for the Kingdom Hearts franchise, titled "Kingdom Hearts (working title)," at D23 in Anaheim on August 14. It will air on Disney Channel and stream on Disney+. The series is a co-production between Disney Kids & Family and Square Enix, featuring a completely new story rebuilt for the show rather than a direct adaptation. Creator Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix's creative team are involved in production. The franchise has sold over 39 million copies worldwide since its first game in 2002.
