Disney announced at D23 that it will produce an animated Kingdom Hearts series for Disney+, developed with game creator Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix. The series reimagines the video game franchise with a new story expanding its universe. It follows Sora, a young hero who meets Disney characters, with the first game released in 2002 and a fourth title forthcoming. Disney Kids & Family president Ayo Davis said the show targets young kids while working closely with Nomura to keep the series authentic to the games' complex plot.
