Disney announced a Kingdom Hearts anime series for Disney Channel and Disney+ at Friday's D23 showcase, marking the franchise's first television adaptation. The series, working-titled Kingdom Hearts, is developed with creator Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix, featuring a new story in the existing universe. A teaser image showed Sora, but no cast, episode count, or release date was confirmed. The announcement accompanied Kingdom Hearts 4's late 2027 release window and a Coco world reveal. Disney Kids & Family president Ayo Davis stated the show will feel "unmistakably Kingdom Hearts" while offering new fans a fresh entry point.
