Marco Rubio Visits Jamnagar Refinery to Boost US-India Energy Ties
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Reliance Industries' Jamnagar complex on Wednesday to promote deeper US-India energy cooperation, including American exports, refining collaboration, and investment. The visit highlighted Washington's strategic focus on expanding energy ties with India. Rubio toured the world's largest single-site refinery, the Vantara wildlife center, and Reliance's clean-energy manufacturing hub. Discussions covered new energy giga-factories, data centers, and collaboration opportunities with US companies. Ambassador Sergio Gor noted US LPG imports to India surged from under 10 percent to 67 percent over the past year. The visit followed Rubio's talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Mumbai on Tuesday. Reliance's proposed Brownsville, Texas refinery, designed for 168,000 barrels daily, could become the first major new US refinery in about five decades. Trade deal negotiations remain with only "a small number of items" unresolved.
