Alberta separation vote support stays low at 23%, poll finds

globalnews.ca —

An Ipsos poll for Global News shows 23 per cent of Albertans support a binding separation vote, while 70 per cent plan to vote to remain in Canada in Monday's referendum. The survey of 801 Albertans was conducted Oct. 13-16. Support for separation rose three points from September, with highest backing among men, those aged 35-54, and residents outside Calgary and Edmonton. Five per cent remain undecided, and two per cent won't vote, which pollster Darrell Bricker says is insufficient to trigger a separation vote. Premier Danielle Smith has urged yes votes on the other nine questions on immigration and the constitution to gain federal negotiating leverage. The poll has a credibility interval of plus or minus 4.2 percentage points.
