Alberta independence supporters rally in Edmonton ahead of referendum
Supporters of Alberta independence rallied outside the provincial legislature in Edmonton on Saturday, less than 48 hours before Monday's referendum on secession. The event, organized by Let Alberta Decide, was delayed one hour due to strong winds. Ten speakers addressed the crowd, including Keith Wilson, co-chair of the group and head of the Alberta Transition Council. Organizers rented buses from various cities, with routes from Calgary and Leduc sold out, and Edmonton police issued a traffic advisory for the area. The referendum features 10 questions, most notably asking if Albertans want to start a legal process toward a binding secession vote. Hundreds of thousands have already voted by mail or advance polls, which close Saturday at 8 p.m., though polling suggests most Albertans favor staying in Canada.
