Alberta referendum: Liberals and Conservatives urge decisive vote for Canada

cbc.ca —

Federal Liberals and Conservatives are urging Albertans to vote decisively on Monday to remain in Canada, seeking to end questions about the province's place in the country. Prime Minister Mark Carney and Conservative MP Dane Lloyd both appealed for a strong result favoring unity. Polling from Abacus Data shows 68 per cent of voters support remaining a province, while 24 per cent back starting a legal process toward a binding separation referendum. The survey of 1,021 voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. The ballot includes nine additional questions on immigration and constitutional reform, which Premier Danielle Smith supports but Carney rejects. Sixty-one per cent of respondents expect to vote on separation again after Monday, and Liberal MP Corey Hogan noted separatist sentiment has always existed in Alberta.
