A technical glitch in the UK's air traffic control system caused over 1,000 flight cancellations on Tuesday, severely disrupting travel across the country. The issue, which affected major airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, and Birmingham, was resolved by operator NATS, which apologized and said it was working to clear the backlog. Arrivals at Heathrow were suspended for the rest of the day, though departures resumed. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander welcomed the fix but said it would take time to fully resume flights, and she sought assurances that lessons would be learned. Passengers were advised to check with airlines, with further disruption expected throughout Tuesday.
