Trump to meet with Mayor Mamdani in New York before UN General Assembly
President Donald Trump will meet with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Monday at Gracie Mansion during his visit for the U.N. General Assembly, though the White House declined to provide additional details about the encounter. Mamdani’s communications director, Anna Bahr, confirmed the meeting, stating the two will discuss key matters affecting the city and New Yorkers. Mamdani, a democratic socialist who defeated former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the primary and won the general election in November, has often clashed with Republicans. Despite Trump branding Mamdani a "100% Communist Lunatic" during the 2025 campaign, the president has shown warmth toward him, calling the mayor-elect after his win and praising him at the White House. In February, Mamdani gave Trump a mock New York Daily News front page reading "Trump to City: Let’s Build," referencing the 1975 "FORD TO CITY: DROP DEAD" headline to highlight support for federal housing investments.
