The Monday meeting at Gracie Mansion marked their third face-to-face interaction, following a February White House meeting and a November 2025 session after Mamdani's election win. Trump, who previously attacked Mamdani as a "communist," has recently praised the mayor, saying he wants him to be "a great mayor." The cooperation has drawn backlash from some conservatives, including Laura Loomer, who questioned the alliance. The two leaders also discussed housing projects, including the Sunnyside Yards redevelopment in Queens.
