US President Donald Trump did not make a military commitment to Yemen's President Rashad al-Alimi during a Sunday phone call, despite a request for American support against Iran-backed Houthi rebels, according to an AFP report. The call was a show of solidarity with Yemen's Saudi-backed government after the Houthis seized much of the Red Sea coastline. Alimi's appeal followed a Houthi attack on Riyadh, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also urged Trump to act. Trump has reportedly shifted positions on possible US strikes, at one point ordering the Pentagon to prepare airstrikes before reversing course. The Houthis have seized strategic coastal areas, raising concerns over shipping disruptions and attacks on Saudi territory.
