G7 urges Iran to stop arming Houthis as Yemen conflict escalates

The G7 foreign ministers have called on Iran to end its arming and support of Yemen's Houthi rebels, condemning their attacks on Saudi Arabia as a threat to regional and global energy security. The joint statement, issued ahead of the UN General Assembly, urged the Houthis to cease all military actions and return to the political process. It follows the group's seizure of territory along Yemen's Red Sea coast, including near the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait. At least six people were killed in Saudi strikes on the Yemeni city of Mokha, according to Houthi-affiliated media. The UN estimates over 120,000 Yemenis have been displaced by the recent surge in fighting.
