France and US push UN resolution to reopen Strait of Hormuz after Houthi attacks

France is working on a new UN Security Council resolution to unblock the Strait of Hormuz, following a "very constructive" meeting between President Macron and President Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. The G7 has condemned continued Houthi attacks, and the UK will provide defensive military support to Saudi Arabia. Macron stated they agreed to act together on energy market tensions, protecting critical infrastructure, and freedom of navigation in Hormuz. The G7 foreign ministers urged the Iran-backed group to cease fire immediately. The UK will provide air-to-air refueling for Saudi jets on defensive missions, while the EU's Kallas noted the Aspides operation needs more ships. Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi arrived in New York for the UN General Assembly, with President Pezeshkian expected to follow. Israeli operations in Syria have intensified, with 267 violations recorded in August. Saudi-led coalition airstrikes on the Yemeni port of Al-Makhā killed six civilians, including two children.
