Russian Diesel Shipment Heads to US Under Putin-Trump Deal
The first Russian diesel shipment under a deal between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump is heading to New York, according to ship-tracking data, as Trump seeks to lower US fuel prices before the November 3 midterm elections. The Malta-flagged tanker Agioi Fanendes, loaded with 40,000 metric tons of ultra-low sulphur diesel at Russia's Baltic port of Primorsk on October 22, is expected to arrive in the US on November 7. This volume equals roughly 300,000 barrels, about 7% of daily US diesel consumption, with the buyer and seller not yet identified. The cargo marks the first US import of Russian oil products since a 2022 ban under former President Joe Biden. Trump announced Russia would export 300,000 metric tons immediately, followed by 500,000 tons in November and 1 million tons thereafter, with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirming the first tanker's departure.
