Measles outbreak kills over 1,000 children in Bangladesh

More than 1,000 children have died in Bangladesh from a measles outbreak since the start of the year, according to the country's health authorities. The death toll crossed the milestone on Wednesday. Since March, over 187,000 suspected cases among children have been registered. The highly contagious disease has led to severe complications, including brain inflammation, overwhelming hospitals like Shishu Hospital in Dhaka, where doctors report exhaustion. Measles was previously largely under control in Bangladesh, but vaccination coverage has declined in recent years for various reasons. Eight-month-old Rojatun Jannat Ramisa, struggling to breathe, is among thousands of hospitalized children.
