Bangladesh measles outbreak kills over 1,000 children

More than 1,000 children have died from measles in Bangladesh since March, with health officials admitting that gaps in a vaccination drive may have worsened the outbreak. The country has recorded 1,002 deaths and 187,484 infections among children, making it the deadliest measles outbreak in decades. Officials say around four million children were missed by the campaign, preventing herd immunity. The crisis is straining hospitals already overwhelmed by a surge in dengue cases, which have killed 130 people this year. Officials warn dengue cases may rise further in late September and early October.
