Macron and Carney meet on French islands to strengthen France-Canada ties

The meeting follows US tariffs and President Donald Trump's repeated talk of making Canada the 51st state, pushing Ottawa toward deeper European ties. Carney recently embraced the prospect of Canada becoming the EU's first associate member. The visit also comes after Trump's social media post depicting US control over the region and his agreement on Greenland, which Macron welcomed as easing tensions.
