Carney and Macron meet in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon to show unity

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney landed Sunday in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, a French territory, for a symbolic meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron. The two leaders will hold a working dinner and lay a wreath at a monument honoring Free French volunteers. Macron is spending three days on the islands, about 20 kilometers off Newfoundland's south coast, before heading to the UN General Assembly in New York. Carney, also traveling to New York Monday, joined Macron to demonstrate unity and mutual respect amid heightened US tensions with Canada and Europe. Their talks will cover aerospace, energy, and critical minerals partnerships. This marks the first official visit by a sitting Canadian prime minister to the territory.
