Canada and France launch joint space program

Canada and France have agreed to create a joint space program covering infrastructure and business cooperation, following talks between Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Emmanuel Macron. The leaders met on the French overseas territory of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, which borders Canada. They will task their space agencies and defense ministries with developing shared infrastructure, including launch systems and ground receiving stations, while regional commissions will expand work on economic growth and climate resilience. Carney is the first Canadian prime minister to officially visit the territory, and Macron the first French president to do so in over a decade. The deal aligns with France's November 2025 pledge of €4.2 billion for military space activities through 2030.
