Kremlin confirms Putin envoy met Witkoff and Kushner in New York, cites economic benefit

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and special representative of the Russian dictator, continues contacts with US presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, focusing on economic issues. Peskov stated this on Friday, September 25, during a briefing, effectively confirming Dmitriev's meeting with Witkoff and Kushner in New York. Peskov noted that Dmitriev focuses on "issues of potential interaction in the economic sphere," which currently does not exist, but "there is an understanding that it could be beneficial." On September 23, The Guardian reported Dmitriev's trip to the US for meetings with Trump administration representatives, and on September 25, CNN reported the New York meeting where cooperation and peaceful settlement of Russia's war against Ukraine were discussed. Earlier, on September 17, The New York Times reported that the White House is considering signing business deals with Russia before it ends the war against Ukraine, as such agreements would demonstrate US seriousness about resetting relations with Moscow. Ukrainian officials did not confirm reports of a possible trilateral Ukraine-Russia-US meeting.
