Israeli Party Urges President to Pick Eisenkot for Government Formation
Israel's Yashar party has urged President Isaac Herzog to task its leader, Gadi Eisenkot, with forming the next government after he secured 67 recommendations versus 46 for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The party calls this the strongest mandate since 2015. Yashar argues the results show Israelis want change and lack confidence in Netanyahu, describing him as a caretaker premier leading a minority bloc. It urges Herzog to act swiftly so Eisenkot can form a national emergency government serving all citizens. Herzog noted results appear clear but formation remains uncertain due to mutual vetoes between and within political blocs. He will hold further consultations before assigning the mandate on Sunday, following the October 27 elections where no bloc won an absolute majority.
