Geely unveils EV battery that charges in under five minutes

Chinese carmaker Geely unveiled an electric vehicle battery that charges from 10 to 70 percent in four-and-a-half minutes, claiming the industry's fastest time and intensifying its flash-charging rivalry with BYD. Geely's system reaches 97 percent charge in eight minutes and 40 seconds using a 2.2-megawatt charger, beating BYD's nine-minute benchmark. The company achieved this through an 800-volt system, though executives note gains are approaching physical limits. The Galaxy E5 SUV will debut the technology in China later this year. Geely sold 1.42 million vehicles in early 2026 and targets 920,000 exports, as Chinese makers compete on charging speed and range rather than price alone.
