Alphabet's October selloff erases $758 billion in market value, its worst month ever
Alphabet lost $758 billion in market value in October, its worst month ever, capping a week that saw a $468 billion decline, the second-largest weekly wipeout for any US-listed stock. The selloff was driven by a single-day $475 billion drop following its third-quarter results. The October loss is nearly double Alphabet's previous worst month of about $420 billion in February 2025, and the stock fell nearly 19%, its worst monthly percentage decline since its 2004 IPO. Other tech firms also suffered, with SpaceX, Intel, and Nvidia each losing over $100 billion this week, while Intel dropped as much as 30% Friday. Despite the turmoil, UBS advised against retreating from markets, noting that Eli Lilly, Tesla, and SK Hynix added over $300 billion in combined value. Alphabet's stock finished the week about $7 above the level needed to surpass Nvidia's weekly record loss.
