US inflation lifts Fed rate hike odds as oil climbs, gold and bitcoin fall
US inflation accelerated in September, with the consumer price index rising 3.7% annually, strengthening expectations that the Federal Reserve will hike interest rates again. The data pressured markets, sending gold and Bitcoin lower while oil prices climbed. The monthly CPI rose 0.6%, driven primarily by a 9.1% jump in gasoline prices, while core inflation excluding food and energy exceeded forecasts at 0.3% monthly and 2.6% annually. Market odds for an October rate hike rose to roughly 42-43%, up from about 22% before the report. Oil prices gained as Middle East tensions threatened supply routes, with Brent near $106 and WTI at $95. Gold fell 1.3% to $4,100 an ounce as Treasury yields climbed to 5.278%, while Bitcoin dropped 1.7% to around $81,700 amid weakened risk appetite.
