Ukraine's largest steel plant halts production until war ends after missile strikes

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine's largest steel plant, will not resume production until the war ends, as its parent company has concluded it cannot operate safely after four missile strikes in five weeks. The attacks, the latest on September 21, killed five people and wounded 17 workers, one critically, while causing significant damage to production facilities. ArcelorMittal has provided over $700 million in financial support and will record about $1 billion in asset impairment losses. The company is discussing the plant's future with the Ukrainian government and will focus on preserving infrastructure for potential post-war recovery. Other Ukrainian steelmakers, including Zaporizhstal and Kametstal, have also suspended operations following recent Russian strikes.
