Trump casts doubt on Vance's 2028 bid after Democratic midterm wins

President Donald Trump said Wednesday he does not know if Vice President JD Vance will run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2028, leaving the party's succession uncertain. Trump's comments came a day after Democrats won historic midterm victories, seizing control of both congressional chambers in a rebuke to his leadership. He told reporters "maybe he won't run" and that he doesn't know who will seek the nomination. Trump cannot run again due to term limits, despite expressing interest. Polls show Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as leading contenders, though neither has announced. Vance previously said he hasn't decided but expected Trump's backing, which Trump says they haven't discussed.
