Sergio Gor may replace Marco Rubio as US Secretary of State
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor may replace Marco Rubio as US Secretary of State, as Rubio could prepare for a future presidential campaign. Ten sources say Gor, a former White House official and close Trump ally, has been laying groundwork for a major promotion after the midterm elections. Gor has extensive connections and direct access to Trump, increasingly participating in high-level meetings with influence beyond his ambassadorial role. He is seen as a key intermediary between Washington and much of Asia, and a trusted figure of Secretary Rubio. As former White House Personnel Office head, he played a key role in vetting thousands of officials. Gor's name has been floated for several influential positions, including White House chief of staff and replacing Rubio. Some believe Rubio may leave to prepare for a 2028 or 2032 presidential run. Gor denied interest in another role, calling the story "complete and absolute nonsense," while Rubio and chief of staff Susie Wiles have not publicly stated intentions to leave.
