OpenAI's ChatGPT adds GIF creation with new Images 2.6 model
OpenAI has updated ChatGPT with its new Images 2.6 multimodal vision model, enabling subscribers to generate, edit, and export animated looping GIFs directly in chat using natural language prompts. The tool creates seamless 2-to-4-second animated loops from text descriptions, supports conversational multi-turn revisions, and offers export options from 12fps to 30fps in GIF, WebP, and MP4 formats. It also includes C2PA cryptographic metadata to verify synthetic generation. The feature rolls out immediately to ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise subscribers, with free-tier users receiving a metered monthly allowance. Developers will gain access to Images 2.6 API endpoints in early December for third-party integration.
