OpenAI launches Images 2.6 with faster generation and GIF support

OpenAI has launched Images 2.6, its latest image generation model, featuring 50% faster generation, improved editing controls, and native animated GIF creation support, now available globally in ChatGPT, Codex, and the API. The update introduces two API variants: GPT-Image-2.6 Flare, optimized for speed with generation in as little as six seconds, and GPT-Image-2.6 Sunburst, focused on quality and consistency across edits. Developers also gain access to image markup, SVG exports, and a complexity parameter for controlling planning depth. Images 2.6 is accessible across all subscription tiers on desktop, mobile, and web. The GIF feature allows users to animate characters, product visuals, and even hand-drawn sketches for social media and other applications.
