Jaishankar Warns of Turbulent Times, Says India Will Rise to Challenges
India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar warned Monday that the world is entering an "age of flux" marked by conflict, uncertainty, and tariff volatility, while expressing confidence India will navigate the challenges. Speaking at the Kautilya Economic Conclave, Jaishankar cited geopolitical tensions creating pressures on energy, food security, fertilisers, and trade. He reiterated India's stance that the Ukraine conflict cannot be resolved on the battlefield, advocating for dialogue and diplomacy while maintaining contact with both Russia and Ukraine. Jaishankar defended India's multi-aligned foreign policy, rejecting a "black-and-white view" of relations with major powers. He described the US as a key strategic partner while stressing the importance of managing ties with China, Russia, and Europe, framing each relationship as a "plus-plus" rather than a zero-sum game.
