India steps up peace efforts with active talks with Russia, Ukraine
India's Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said India is now actively engaging with both Russia and Ukraine in discussions to end the war, moving beyond mere calls for peace. He made the remarks at the Munich Leaders Meeting in Delhi. Jaishankar stated India is taking a helpful position on key issues like Black Sea shipping safety, grain and energy exports, and preventing mutual attacks. This follows Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha confirming India has presented comprehensive proposals to end the conflict. India maintains its clear stance that the war must end through dialogue and diplomacy, with recent months seeing direct communication with both sides. Jaishankar also highlighted India's historical ties with Russia, which has supported India since the 1950s, and noted the relationship has grown into broad economic partnership.
