India steps up efforts to end Ukraine war, says Jaishankar
India has moved beyond advocacy to actively engage with Kyiv and Moscow on grain exports, energy supplies and Black Sea shipping safety to help resolve the ongoing war through dialogue. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made this first public acknowledgement of New Delhi's latest initiative on Sunday. Jaishankar said India is focusing on Black Sea shipping safety, grain exports, energy supplies and non-attack possibilities in ongoing conversations with both Russia and Ukraine. This follows Russian President Vladimir Putin's comment that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has "good ideas" for a solution, and Ukraine's confirmation that it received separate ceasefire proposals from India and three other nations. India has consistently pushed for resolving the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy for over four years. Jaishankar also highlighted India's historical ties with Russia since the 1950s, noting the Soviet Union's support during threats to India's security and territorial integrity, while acknowledging the relationship has now expanded to include trade, investment, energy and nuclear cooperation.
