Explosions rock Kyiv as air defenses engage Russian missiles

A series of explosions occurred in Kyiv, Ukraine, with local media reporting the events without providing further details. Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that air defense systems were active in the city. Air raid alerts are currently in effect across Kyiv and the surrounding region, as well as in parts of Sumy, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts. The explosions follow a massive Russian strike on Ukrainian industrial, energy, and logistics facilities overnight, which included hypersonic Zircon missiles. Russian forces targeted enterprises in Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, and Odesa regions, along with the Kremenchug oil refinery and port infrastructure. On September 22, Russian lawmaker Andrei Kolesnik suggested Kyiv should propose peace terms before winter amid intensified ballistic missile attacks.
