75 Cats Rescued From Small Paris Apartment, Dead Kittens Found in Freezer

Animal welfare group YouCare rescued 75 cats from a small apartment in Paris, where dead kittens were found in a freezer. The animals lived in deplorable conditions in the roughly 50-square-meter social housing unit. The rescue followed the tenant's eviction from the 15th arrondissement, with police and a bailiff requesting YouCare's involvement. The unsterilized cats produced many litters, with YouCare estimating dozens of kittens died monthly; only four survived. The former tenant is suspected of having Noah's syndrome, a hoarding disorder. A fundraising campaign has reached its 21,000-euro goal to cover treatment and care costs of about 500 euros per cat.
