75 Cats Found in Paris Apartment After Eviction

More than 75 cats were found in a small Paris apartment, some in very poor condition, after the resident was evicted. Authorities requested animal welfare organization YouCare's assistance following the forced eviction. The cats were discovered in a roughly 50-square-meter social housing unit in the city's 15th arrondissement. YouCare's chairman Thomas Moreau described the situation as cruel, with some cats requiring veterinary care and dead kittens found in a freezer. About 30 cats temporarily remained in the apartment with daily volunteer care, as YouCare sought help from other organizations. Moreau called it a likely case of animal hoarding, known in French as "Noah's syndrome," a psychiatric condition where people accumulate large numbers of pets without proper care.
